  • I really enjoyed the article too.  The beauty of Math cannot be found in algorithms, and it is our duty as educators to ensure that students get to experience Math in its’ fullest sense.  I also like Kyle’s phrasing of “bumping into rules”.  When students do this, the Math becomes so much more meaningful and purposeful for them.

  • This is a great article and really hits home. I have been pushing teachers to hold off on introducing algorithms and instead give students an opportunity to tinker, inquire and bump into rules, procedures and algorithms. Often times they need our help to get there, but they should definitely have a strong conceptual understanding prior to employing an algorithm.
