What a whirlwind!

Hi Friends,

Seems like forever since I've been in touch with you all as I've been unable to make the last two trips Vista made to Alberta and Norway over the past couple of months. As Craig mentioned in a previous post, we have both taken on new roles in our district. Craig is in two schools doing math coaching, while I am in the K-12 math consultant role. As you might recall from our Ontario visit, my district had been in the process of a year long Math Task Force to address the falling math scores in grade 3 and 6 in our district (as well as across the province). From that work, a Math Task Force Report was compiled that was built off of our Mathematics Vision and addressed many of the considerations that were brought forward by the task force.

With that said, taking on the role of math consultant for my district as we begin year one of a seven year math strategy was a bit overwhelming! I'm just starting to catch my breath as we look forward to the Christmas Break because we have been going non-stop since the spring with planning, facilitating sessions and professional learning communities in schools.

I'm excited to have an opportunity to join the Vista and Pereyma Crew as we will come together to present in Ottawa just after the break. It is also my intention to join the next Norcan meeting in the spring!

Hope you all are doing well and are getting ready for a well deserved holiday!

Kyle
